Cheesy, I know. But I’ve been waiting months to write that!
This blog post is a love letter to anyone with a fear of shiny things that sparkle and glimmer.
I’ve heard it all.
“That chandelier is too…much.”
“Nope. That light is too old-fashioned.”
“I like rustic metals. And chandeliers are just .”too…girly.”
“No way. My Granny likes chandeliers.”
“I’m not going to dust all those crystals!”
“Umm, will the chandelier go with the deer head he makes me hang in the living room?”
Hey, I get it! All that glitters isn’t for everyone, and I completely respect that. But I’ve always wanted an opportunity to explain how sometimes, a little bling is a really great thing. So here goes nothing.
As Audrey is to Hollywood, as CoCo is to fashion, as Louis is to luggage…certain things are timeless, classic. And so it also is with interior design. A few elements stand solid and stoic against ever-changing trends. Crystal is one of those elements.
Cutting crystal is a delicate skill. At its finest, it is chiseled by hand, with great artistry and craftsmanship. When cut correctly, prisms of light are beautifully bent and colorfully cast across the room. It can be a daily light show of fantastical proportions.
And contrary to many opinions, I maintain my stand that crystal blends with every design style. Yes, I did write that. And yes, I really do mean it.
Does crystal blend with–
*Modern decor?
Totally.
*Antiques?
Obviously.
*Rustic?
Who’d have thought, but yes! I’ve done it, and I absolutely loved it.
*Mid-Century?
Yes! And feel free to add a splash of colorful glass/crystal for an Art Deco twist on the style.
*Traditional?
Absolutely.
*And even more!
I was genuinely impressed at the crystal dining light in this old Airstream travel trailer!
In a nutshell, the wonderful thing about crystal is that it’s much more affordable than it once was. These days, it’s accessible at every price point. And with a little imagination, there’s no ceiling to its versatility.
So, while I’m very aware that not everyone will share my passion for sparkle and shine, I hope I’ve illuminated a ray of light on a new-old design topic. Remember, I’m always available to discuss design questions, if there’s something you’d like to ask. You can reach me through the CONTACT tab on our website homepage.
Whatever you do today, make it creative!
